Danie Rossouw Bio

Danie Rossouw is a former South African lock, flanker and number eight who captured many of the world’s top titles. During his distinguished career, he became one of the most decorated players in the history of the game.

Born 5 June 1978, Danie Rossouw began his professional rugby-playing career in 1999, when he made his first appearance for the Blue Bulls. He then stayed with the side for more than a decade. During his time with the team, he made almost 100 appearances and won the Currie Cup twice.

In addition to his service for the Blue Bulls, Danie Rossouw was a regular starter for the Bulls in Super Rugby between 2002 and 2011. During this period, he made 116 appearances for the side and won the Super Rugby title three times.

Although he spent the majority of his domestic career with the Blue Bulls and the Bulls, Danie Rossouw finished his career overseas. Between 2011 and 2013, he played in Japan for Suntory Sungoliath. Here, he won the Top League title twice.

In 2013, Danie Rossouw then moved to Toulon. During his time with the French giants, he won the Top 14 once and the Heineken Champions Cup twice before he retired in 2014.

Although he enjoyed a glittering domestic career, Danie Rossouw is undoubtedly best known for his career with the Springboks. Between 2003 and 2011, he was capped 63 times by the national team. With the Springboks, he won the Rugby World Cup, the Tri Nations and a series against the British and Irish Lions.

Due to his successes at both domestic and international level, Danie Rossouw is rightly regarded as one of the most decorated players to ever play the game.

Since his retirement from rugby in 2014, Danie Rossouw has returned to South Africa. He now runs his own safari company.
