Stirling Mortlock is a former Wallabies, Brumbies and Rebels captain.
Stirling Mortlock Bio
Stirling Mortlock is a former rugby union player who was a prolific point scorer. He’s best known for scoring more than 1,000 points in Super Rugby and for scoring almost 500 points for the Wallabies. Stirling Mortlock was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Stirling Mortlock began playing rugby during his school days and was an immediate standout in the sport. As a result, he represented Australia at both U19 and U21 level before he joined the Brumbies in 1998.
Between 1998 and 2010, Stirling Mortlock made more than 100 appearances for the Brumbies, and scored more than 1,000 points for the club. During his illustrious career with the side, he won the Super Rugby championship twice (2001 and 2004). As an added bonus, the championship in 2004 came in his first year as captain of the side. However, sadly, he could not appear in the final due to injury.
In 2010, Stirling Mortlock left the Brumbies after more than a decade with the club. At this time, he joined the Melbourne Rebels and was announced as the side’s inaugural captain in 2011. He then played for the side until the end of the 2012 season, when he retired from playing but took on a supporting role.
Although his Super Rugby career was long and illustrious, Stirling Mortlock is undoubtedly best known for his career with Australia. Between 2000 and 2009, he was capped by his country 80 times and scored 489 points. From 2006 onwards, he also captained the side regularly, including at the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Since retiring from rugby in 2012, Stirling Mortlock has continued to work as an ambassador for the Melbourne Rebels. He also works as a speaker and consultant.
