Mark Jones Bio

Once a formidable winger for Scarlets and Wales, Mark Jones is now a distinguished coach.

Born 7 November 1979, Mark Jones began playing rugby at a young age and represented Builth Wells during his junior career. After progressing to play for the senior side in 1995, he was signed by Llandovery after a string of impressive performances. In his first season of senior rugby with Llandovery, he was the highest scorer in the Welsh League. As a result of his success for Llandovery, Mark Jones then signed for Llanelli.

When the Welsh Rugby Union restructured the rugby system in the country in 2003, Mark Jones signed for the Scarlets. During this period of his career, he also became firmly established as a Welsh international. After representing Wales at U18, U19 and U20 level, he made almost 50 appearances for the full international side. The highlight of this international career was undoubtedly in 2008, when he helped Wales achieve the Six Nations Grand Slam.

Sadly, in 2010, Mark Jones was forced to retire from rugby through injury. By this point, he’d played more than 160 games for Llanelli and the Scarlets, alongside 47 appearances for Wales.

Upon his retirement, Mark Jones immediately took up a role as a backs coach with the Scarlets. Since, he’s also performed a similar role for Wales. In addition, he’s also been a head coach for Rotherham, RGC 1404 and Namibia. Currently, he’s the senior assistant coach with responsibility for defence and kicking game for Worcester Warriors.
