Mike Catt Bio

Mike Catt was a versatile and formidable player who was one of the best to ever represent England. Throughout his career, he featured in two Rugby World Cup finals and won almost every trophy the game had to offer.

Mike Catt was born and raised in South Africa and only moved to England after he finished school. However, in 1992, he signed for Bath. He then went on to represent the side for the majority of his domestic career. Between 1992 and 2004, he played 227 games for the team and scored more than 800 points in the process. Throughout this time, he won the Premiership and Anglo-Welsh Cup three times, and the Heineken Champions Cup once.

After Bath opted to not renew his contract in 2004, Mike Catt moved to London Irish. Although he was in the twilight of his career at this point, he was still a formidable player and, in 2006, he was voted as the Premiership Player of the Season.

At the start of the 2007-08 season, Mike Catt announced that he was taking on a player-coach role with London Irish. During this spell, he carried on making regular appearances for the side until his retirement in 2010, including in the 2009 Premiership final.

Although he enjoyed a stellar domestic career, Mike Catt is best known for his 75 appearances for England between 1994 and 2007. During this time, he featured in two Rugby World Cup finals and won four Six Nations Championships. In addition to this, Mike Catt was also a proud member of two British and Irish Lions tours in 1997 and 2001.

Since retiring from rugby in 2010, Mike Catt has embarked on a coaching career and was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2011. Since his role as the attack coach at London Irish ended in 2012, he’s been the backs coach for England and the attack coach for Italy. He’s now the attack coach for Ireland.
