Jim Hamilton Bio

Throughout his glittering career, Jim Hamilton made 63 appearances for the Scottish national team. A strong and powerful lock, he’s undoubtedly one of Scotland’s modern greats.

Born 17 November 1982, Jim Hamilton began playing rugby at a young age in Coventry, where he grew up. After playing amateur rugby for Barkers Butts RFC, he joined Leicester Tigers in 2003.

Jim Hamilton stayed with Leicester until 2008, making 64 appearances for the first team. However, in 2008, he made the move to Scotland and signed for Edinburgh, where he remained until 2010. Following this, he signed for Gloucester (2010-13), Montpellier (2013-14) and Saracens (2014-17) before he retired at the end of the 2016-17 season.

Jim Hamilton’s time with Saracens was highly successful. He helped the side win the Premiership title in 2015 and 2016, and also helped Saracens win the Heineken Champions Cup in 2016 and 2017.

Although Jim Hamilton represented England at U19 and U21 level, he opted to play for Scotland at international level. When he made his debut for the side in 2006, he became the 1,000th man to be capped by Scotland when he came off the bench against Romania. Between 2006 and 2015, he made 63 appearances for his country and was selected for two Rugby World Cup squads. However, after he wasn’t selected for the Scotland squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, he retired from international duty.

After retiring from the game entirely in 2017, Jim Hamilton now works in the media. This includes a role as a content director and producer right here at RugbyPass.
