Agustín Pichot Bio
Agustín Pichot is a former scrum half who regularly captained his country Argentina. During his distinguished career, he also represented and captained a number of Europe’s elite sides. Agustín Pichot was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Born 22 August 1974, Agustín Pichot began his rugby career in Argentina, where he represented Club Atlético de San Isidro. However, in 1997, he moved to Europe and began to represent Richmond. After a couple of impressive seasons with the side, he then moved to Bristol in 1999.
During his time with Bristol, Agustín Pichot became a talismanic figure for the side in the Premiership and he regularly captained the team. However, in 2003, he made the decision to leave England and move to France. As a result, he signed for Stade Français.
In his years with Stade Français, Agustín Pichot was hugely successful. He finished as a runner up in the Heineken Champions Cup in 2005, and he won the French title on multiple occasions. In 2007, he became the first foreign captain of a French team to win the title.
At the end of the 2007 season, Agustín Pichot left Stade Français and joined Racing 92. He enjoyed one season with the club before retiring. However, he did briefly come out of retirement in 2009 for one final stint with Stade Français. Sadly though, his comeback ended early due to injury.
Although he was a giant of European rugby, Agustín Pichot is best known for his 71 appearances for Argentina between 1995 and 2008. During this time, he regularly captained the side and he led Argentina to a third-place finish at the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Since retiring from rugby, Agustín Pichot has been involved in rugby governance. He was once the Vice-Chairman of World Rugby and he currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of UAR. He was also inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2011.
